Sushi is OK, but that doesn't make it Japanese. An old Asian Studies hand recommended this place, so I had high expectations. The first few times I went I was not disappointed. The sushi was pretty good, and they even did reasonably well with the non-sushi Japanese food, which is rare in this area.

I went back today after a 2-year hiatus and was disappointed. They did have good miso soup, which is no small feat. But I was horrified at their attempt at a donburi (rice bowl topped with a soupy egg mixture and meat such as chicken or fried pork). They served me a mound of rice on a plate topped with fried pork and a vegetable egg crepe. It was really dry, and surrounded by orange slices, and cucumber slices topped with maraschino cherries. The chefs don't know that the word "donburi" means "bowl," and you really are supposed to douse the rice in a soupy mixture, hence the need for a bowl. My hopes for decent Japanese comfort food quashed.

My companion had chicken tempura. Never once in my six years of living in Japan have I seen chicken tempura, but at least it was real chicken breast and not reclaimed chicken meat. They used panko instead of traditional batter, but it was passable tempura overall.

The vast majority of readers will just want sushi, and for those purposes this place is fine. But if you actually want Japanese food, you need to go elsewhere.

Best I've had!. A couple of my friends and I eat lunch here weekly. After having sushi a couple other places in the area, this is the only place I go any more. The place is small, quiet, and nice. Easy to have a conversation and not have to battle any noise. The staff is nice, friendly, and knows us by name since we go there once a week. The sushi is excellent. The flavors and textures blend very well. They have spicy tuna and spicy crab rolls on sale for $3 on Mondays (not sure if its only for lunch, or all day, since we only go for lunch)! The prices are a bit much sometimes, but definately worth it. Over all, this is the best sushi I've ever had. I highly recommend it.
